The Classic is an 18-hole course at the Otsego Resort facility in Gaylord, Michigan, featuring 6,348 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course was designed by William H. Diddel, one of the country's finest golf course architects of his time, and became the founding course of the Gaylord Golf Mecca. The golf course sprawls across scenic parkland that overlooks the nearby Sturgeon River Valley.

The greens are fast and the player-friendly fairways are wide and welcoming to beginners, while the course offers enough challenges for the most skilled golfers. The greens are kept at a very quick pace and are considered by some players the best in Northern Michigan. The traditional, "Country Club" design of The Classic provides a no gimmicks honest approach to the game.

The signature hole, number 18, is a par 4 measuring 310 yards from the back tees — where golfers hit from one ski slope top to another. A glance back from the number 18 green offers the same panoramic twenty mile view as seen from the historic main lodge.
