Located in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, the John F. Gaffney Green Tree Golf Course is an 18-hole municipal facility spanning 5,700 yards from the back tees. The course presents a par-72 layout that accommodates players of varying skill levels through multiple tee box options, including blue, white, gold, and red. The design features tight, tree-lined fairways and pristine greens, with yardages measured to the middle of the green. Amenities include a grass driving range, practice putting and chipping areas, and a fully stocked golf shop. The front nine opens with a par-5 dogleg right where trees protect the fairway sides and water lies behind the green. The third hole stands out as a rare par-6 in the Northeast, stretching 676 yards from the blue tees with a creek running along the left side for two-thirds of the fairway. The fourth hole is a short par-3 requiring a precise pitch over a water hazard, while the fifth offers a driveable par-4 over water with a green that slopes back to front. The front nine concludes with the ninth hole, a strong par-4 requiring a tee shot over a pond to a somewhat crowned green guarded by water on the left and bunkers on the right. The back nine continues the challenge with water features playing a significant role. The 13th and 14th holes utilize water as a lateral hazard. The 14th is considered one of the course's most challenging holes at 370 yards, requiring a long tee shot to a fairway sloping toward a creek, followed by an approach that must navigate between two large oaks guarding a deep green. The 17th is a 90-degree dogleg left requiring a tee shot of 190 to 210 yards, with the green guarded by water short right and behind. The round finishes with the 18th, a 440-yard par-5 reachable in two by longer hitters, where the tee shot must carry water coming in from the right and the approach is protected by water on the left and a series of bunkers on the right. The course is owned and operated by Atlantic County Government. It offers PGA-certified instruction, junior clinics, and a restaurant with a full bar known as MAC’s Pub. The facility enforces standard course etiquette, including repairing ball marks and divots, and allows faster players to play through. A siren system is in place to warn golfers of severe weather or lightning in the area.
