Originally founded in 1895, the club spent the first 13 years of its life at the Bryn on the outskirts of the market town of Newtown, before moving to its current location in 1908. Situated alongside the River Severn in the heart of Wales, St Giles Golf Club is home to a nine-hole, 6012-yard parkland style course. Played as an 18-holer, it measures just over 6,000 yards and, with a par of 70, provides a very good all round test of golf.
The course uses the natural contours of the land to provide a challenging golfing experience, rising and falling towards the River Severn, which borders the course and comes into play on three holes. Notable holes include the second, which is a fine par-3, and the par-4 fourth. The signature hole is the par-4 8th, where players face a tight fairway and a challenging approach over water to a well-protected green.
