St. Georges Golf and Country Club was built in 1917 by the famed architect Devereux Emmet. The course comprises 18 holes with a par of 70 and a length of 6,232 yards. The course underwent a sympathetic Gil Hanse restoration at the start of the new millennium. St. George's is located in Suffolk County, New York, specifically in East Setauket on Long Island.
Recently restored, St. George's is known for its firm fairways, small greens and numerous bunkers. St. George's has changed little from the original 1917 design, making it a preserved example of early 20th-century course architecture. The course is uniquely engineered to challenge players of all skill levels. Golfweek magazine has placed St. George's on its list of top 100 Classic courses, coming in at No. 86.
St. George's is a private facility. The course reflects Emmet's personal design vision, as Emmet gathered a group of wealthy businessmen in 1915 to discuss building a layout that would become his home course. The restoration by Hanse preserved the course's historical character while revealing its links-style roots and the natural moraine topography of the site.
