Southbroom Golf Club is located on the lower South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, just near the Indian Ocean. The 18-hole course was established in 1938 and features a distinctive European-style layout with tropical palm trees and indigenous vegetation alongside the Frederika Nature Reserve.
The course presents a moderate to challenging difficulty level, particularly on windy days. Each hole possesses unique characteristics and design features that test golfers of varying skill levels. Notable elements include water hazards in the form of dams and rivers flowing toward the sea, which require strategic course management. The par-3 fourth hole, measuring just 114 meters, is the course's most famous, sitting as one of two seaside holes. In calm conditions it plays as a wedge shot, but transforms into a demanding challenge during strong winds.
The setting offers impressive views of pristine beaches and the ocean, with clubhouse vistas allowing for whale and dolphin spotting. The course meanders through elegant coastal residences, providing an integral part of the Southbroom village landscape. The club has undergone consistent improvements and upgrades throughout its history while maintaining respect for its heritage, combining historical significance with modern golf course amenities.
