Shelby Golf Course, located in Historic East Nashville, opened in 1924 as Nashville's first municipal golf course. The course was designed by Chicago-based architect Tom Bendelow, with construction commencing in spring 1924. The eighteen-hole course is situated in Shelby Park and incorporates rolling hills and a picturesque landscape. The par-72 course measures 6,079 yards from the Blue tees, with a course rating of 68.2 and slope of 110. The layout features a compact routing with moderate elevation change and a blend of mid-length par fours and reachable par fives.
The course underwent a major restoration project with new greens complexes and green surrounds, expanded teeing areas, and clubhouse upgrades. New TifEagle Bermuda grass greens were planted in summer 2024. The course features elevation changes that are dramatically pronounced, creating distinctive holes that require different playing approaches than flatter layouts.
The course has hosted the School Days Junior Golf Tournament, which is the longest running golf tournament in Tennessee. All skill levels can enjoy a round at Shelby.
