Sagamihara Golf Club

Located in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, Sagamihara Golf Club is a 36-hole facility established in 1955. The course is divided into two distinct 18-hole layouts: the East Course and the West Course. The East Course, originally designed by Yūji Kodera, was initially opened with a single green per hole before being converted to a two-green configuration by Yoshikazu Murakami in 1963. The West Course, designed by Yoshikazu Murakami, opened in July 1960. The club is situated in a scenic area overlooking the Sagami River and the Tanzawa Mountains, featuring pine forests that separate the fairways on the East Course. The East Course is characterized by its flat, straight layout and significant length, reflecting Kodera’s philosophy of making the course as long as possible. It plays to a par of 74 from the long tees, spanning 7,255 yards. The course is notable for its 12th hole, a par-5 that exceeds 600 yards from the back tees. The West Course offers a different challenge with its strategic design and moderate elevation changes. It plays to a par of 72, measuring 6,208 yards from the back tees. The West Course features varied green shapes and is known for its strategic demands, particularly on the downhill holes. Sagamihara Golf Club has a rich history of hosting major professional tournaments. The East Course hosted the Japan Open Golf Championship in 1959 and again in 1980. The club also hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 1981. In 2007, the Japan Open returned to the East Course, drawing a record crowd of 33,027 spectators. The venue has also hosted the Japan Women’s Open for the first time in 2013 and the Asia Pacific Open Golf Championship Diamond Cup Golf in 2021. Most recently, the club hosted the Japan Senior Open Golf Championship in 2025, attracting nearly 10,000 attendees. The club maintains a sister-course relationship with Takarazuka Golf Club, established in 1964.
