Riverside Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course with a companion 9-hole Par 3 layout located four miles south of downtown San Antonio. The front nine, designed by Harold Henk and Vernon Schmidt, opened in 1929, making it one of the city's oldest courses. The back nine was completed in 1973-1974, creating two distinct experiences: the front features tree-lined fairways that penalize errant shots, while the back nine is more open with birdie opportunities.
The course was fully renovated in 2023 and redesigned by Jeffrey Blume in 2024. The San Antonio River divides the front and back nine, adding scenic appeal. The opening hole is a challenging par 5 bordered by oak trees. The course plays to 6,747 yards from the black tees with a slope rating of 141, accommodating players of all skill levels.
The 9-hole Par 3 course, known as "The Teddy Bear," features holes ranging from 80 to 120 yards designed to sharpen short-game skills. Named after Teddy Roosevelt, who trained nearby with the Rough Riders in 1898, the par 3 course winds through large trees with small, undulating greens.
