Robber's Row is an 18-hole championship golf course featuring 6,657 yards with a par of 72 and a slope rating of 134. Originally designed by George W. Cobb and Willard C. Byrd in 1967, the course was redesigned in 1994 by renowned architect Pete Dye, who added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine while making strategic changes throughout the layout. Located on the scenic marsh side of the Port Royal Plantation on Hilton Head Island, the course meanders through beautiful magnolias and live oaks, creating an aesthetically remarkable setting.
The course presents a moderate challenge suited for intermediate golfers, with rolling greens, strategic bunker placement, and water hazards on several holes. Notable features include four excellent par-three holes that form a challenging quartet, with greens well protected by bunkers requiring accuracy on approach shots. Players encounter historical markers at tee boxes throughout the course, as the property sits atop former Civil War grounds, providing cultural and historical context to the golfing experience.
Port Royal Golf Club, which includes Robber's Row and the Barony Course, has been recognized with prestigious accolades including a 1997 Silver Medal Resort designation from Golf Magazine and ranking among Golf Digest's "Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts." The club is operated by Heritage Golf Group and remains a prominent golfing destination in the Lowcountry region.
