The 18-hole Barony course at the Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club facility in Hilton Head Island features 6,530 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by George W. Cobb, the Barony golf course opened in 1963. Located on the northwestern point of Hilton Head Island and cuddled by the Atlantic coastline, the course is situated in the Port Royal Plantation. The risk-reward approaches to the greens bring some challenges and the small greens that are protected by thick rough and unforgiving bunkers calls for a skillful touch with the mid and short irons, with the key to this course being accuracy and not length.
The highlight stretch of the round is from holes 12 to 16, dubbed Port Royal's Amen Corner, which includes the memorable par-4 13th that bends 90 degrees en route to the green. The course hosted a PGA Senior Tour (now PGA Tour Champions) event years ago. The club's golf accolades include a #7 ranking in "The Best 18 – The Greatest Holes of Hilton Head and Bluffton" by Hilton Head Monthly in 2015 and as a "Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts" by Golf Digest magazine.
