Oyster Reef Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course located at 155 High Bluff Road in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1982, the course is carved out of 190 acres of lowcountry terrain. The layout is surrounded by winding lagoons, lush vegetation, and scenic views of the island, utilizing the natural landscape to create a challenging yet fair playing experience. The course offers four sets of tees ranging from 5,288 yards from the forward tees to 7,018 yards from the championship tees. The specific yardages provided are 7,009 yards from the Gold tees (Rating 74.1, Slope 133), 6,470 yards from the Blue tees (Rating 71.7, Slope 128), 6,073 yards from the White tees (Rating 69.8, Slope 125), and 5,642 yards from the Black tees (Rating 68.2, Slope 116). This variety allows golfers of all skill levels to test their game, with the course rewarding precision and strategic shot-making. The signature hole is the par-3 sixth, which Rees Jones designed to feature the Port Royal Sound as a backdrop. Measuring 192 yards from the championship tees, the hole requires careful club selection due to a shallow green that slopes away to the right. A deep bunker fronts the green, adding to the difficulty of the approach shot. The first hole is a par-4 that plays to a green with a ridge across the center, requiring a tee shot placed in the left center to open up the approach angle. Oyster Reef has received significant recognition, including being ranked among the Top 25 New Courses in America upon its opening. It has been voted one of the Top 20 Courses in the Carolinas and named the "Favorite Course of Hilton Head Island Golfers" by The Island Packet. The club also received the Low Country Golf Course Owners Association "Golf Club of the Year" award and was listed among the "Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts" by Golf Digest. The course is open to visitors year-round and offers a concierge service to assist with requests such as raking bunkers or delivering food and beverage.
