Located on Izu Oshima, the Izu Oshima Resort Golf Club is a 18-hole, par-70 hillside course designed by Nobukatsu Marumo. Opened in October 1958, the course was originally known as Oshima Golf Club before rebranding in August 2021. The layout is structured to allow players to experience 18 distinct holes by varying tee positions and green locations across a 9-hole base, creating a self-play format that accommodates groups of two or even single players. The terrain is characterized by wide fairways and significant elevation changes, with many holes offering ocean views. The course is noted for its unique vantage point, allowing players to see Mount Fuji across the sea, a feature described as unique in Japan. The layout includes several challenging par-5s, such as the 2nd and 11th holes, which feature generous distance but require careful navigation around trees and ocean boundaries. The 7th and 16th holes are long par-5s that demand precise second shots to avoid out-of-bounds areas. Wind is a critical factor throughout the round, with the 1st and 10th holes specifically noted for their exposure to Pacific winds and the influence of Mount Mihara. The 12th hole, a 207-yard par-3, is considered a signature challenge, requiring a powerful drive uphill against the wind to reach the green. Shorter holes also present difficulties; the 8th and 17th are short par-3s where misreading the wind can result in significant uphill approaches. The 9th and 18th holes finish with a 30-degree uphill approach to a green guarded by a sacred pine, testing the accuracy of wedge play. The course features elevated, "gunpowder" style greens that are small and often guarded by out-of-bounds areas, particularly on the back side. Players are advised to target the front of greens on several holes to avoid trouble. The design utilizes the natural island topography to create a wide variety of shot shapes and distances, with yardages ranging from 80 yards on the 8th hole to 581 yards on the 7th hole for men from the blue tees. The facility operates with electric or gas carts and allows non-spiked shoes, supporting a casual round of golf in a scenic, natural setting.
