Old Westbury Golf and Country Club
Course Information Unclaimed
Address:
NY
United States
Originally the family estate of William C. Whitney, the property was converted into Old Westbury Golf and Country Club in 1961, with famed course designer Will Mitchell transforming the grounds into three exquisite nine-hole courses (Bluegrass, Overlook, and Woods) and converting the Georgian Colonial Mansion into the clubhouse. Located on one of the highest points on Long Island, the course features tree-lined fairways and perfectly manicured greens with spectacular panoramic views. The award-winning course is among the metropolitan area's most challenging, blending natural elevation changes with an abundance of mature trees and spectacular panoramic views. The course offers varying tee lengths and requires a mix of shots, making it interesting and challenging for golfers of all handicaps and abilities.
A notable feature of the property is the 187-foot-high Tower, which aided in World War II enemy aircraft lookout, and can be seen from every corner of the property. The tower is the remainder of the estate's functioning windmill.
