The course rating is 74.6 and it has a slope rating of 137. Architect Dick Wilson was contracted to build the course, and it was opened for play in 1955.
Notable features at Meadow Brook include huge greens, which are among the biggest in the country, and 10 holes that play as dogleg lefts. The longest hole is the 8th, a par-5 that plays to 617 yards. The fairways range from narrow to wide open, with undulating greens that are large and fast.
The club originated as the Meadow Brook Hunt Club, established in 1881, with an original nine-hole golf course built in 1894. In 1895 the first national women's golf tournament was held at Meadow Brook, won by Lucy Barnes with 132 strokes for the eighteen-hole match. The original course was requisitioned by Robert Moses for the Meadowbrook State Parkway extension in 1954, requiring the club to relocate to its current Jericho location.
