Oak Point is an 18-hole, par-72 course measuring 6,759 yards with a slope rating of 140 and a course rating of 73.8, designed by Clyde Johnston and completed in 1989. Located on neighboring John's Island rather than Kiawah Island itself, the course sits near Charleston, South Carolina. Originally conceived by architect Clyde Johnston, Oak Point sits by the Kiawah River and Haulover Creek, surrounded by maritime forest. A true shotmaker's course, Oak Point showcases undulating fairways and challenging greens that favor a thinking approach over raw power.
Water hazards come into play on 17 of the 18 holes, adding an element of strategic risk throughout the round. The challenging design features stands of massive oaks defining the fairways, plus a plethora of wildlife including birds, deer, and bobcats. The course received the 2019 Charleston Golf Course Owners Association Course of the Year award following a regrassing in Paspalum and refreshed design.
The signature 18th hole offers a spectacular view of Haulover Creek and the Kiawah River, with a back elevated tee box providing an excellent photo opportunity. This par-4 finishing hole has a deep green protected by marsh on the front and right. The Amateur Players Tour's Conflict at Kiawah uses Oak Point for multi-round play, and while it may not host professional championships like the Ocean Course, Oak Point is a venue for various events showcasing its challenging layout.
