Nasu Golf Club is a mountain course situated at an altitude of 900 meters on the slopes of Mount Nasu. Opened in 1936, the course was designed by the renowned architect Seiichi Inoue as his debut work, with later design contributions credited to Kinaya Fujita. The layout is characterized by natural undulations and terrain that serves as a hazard more effectively than artificial features. Consequently, the course contains very few man-made obstacles, featuring only 18 bunkers and a single water hazard across its 18 holes. The course presents a significant challenge due to its elevation and the frequent lack of level stances, with flat ground available primarily at the teeing grounds. The high altitude and plateau winds add to the difficulty, requiring a high level of technical skill. The design philosophy strictly prohibits overrunning the greens, as the downhill approach shots make recovery difficult. The course offers multiple tee options, with the back tees measuring 6,548 yards and a par of 72, while the regular tees play to 6,039 yards. The setting provides expansive views of the sky, the smoke from Mount Nasu, the vast Nasu No Hara plains, and distant peaks such as Tsukuba. The club, which has maintained a family-oriented atmosphere since its founding, is noted for its clubhouse and lodge designed by the architect Junzo Sakakura. The facility also features natural hot springs from Okunozawa, contributing to the club's long-standing reputation as a place for relaxation and traditional golf culture.
