Located in Sashide-cho, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Mitsukaido Golf Club is a 7,047-yard, par-72 layout designed by Kozo Yasuda. The course opened in September 1964 on a 260,000-tsubo site, originally established as a public club for the founder of Nikko Securities before transitioning to a private membership model in 1987. The flat, forested terrain is characterized by wide fairways and a unique dual-green system, utilizing Koa greens for the front nine and Bentgrass greens for the back nine. The course is known for its distinct layout where each short hole features separate tees, creating independent playing experiences for individual holes. This design choice, combined with the flat topography, allows for a varied strategic challenge despite the lack of significant elevation changes. The club maintains a rigorous maintenance schedule to ensure high-quality turf conditions across both green surfaces. Mitsukaido Golf Club holds a significant place in Japanese golf history as the first public course to host the Japan Professional Golf Championship in 1970. The tournament was won by Seichi Sato, and the course was subsequently selected to host the inaugural Bridgestone Open. These events established the club's reputation for hosting high-level professional competition early in its existence.
