Merion Golf Club is located in Haverford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, a township bordering Philadelphia to the northwest along the historic Main Line. The 18-hole West course features 5,989 yards of golf for a par of 70. Designed by Hugh Wilson with revisions by William S. Flynn and Perry Maxwell, the West golf course opened in 1911. The course rating is 68.6 with a slope rating of 115.
The sporty Wilson design boasts intriguing greens and is located about a mile from the East course. The course is draped over a large hillside with assorted undulations, cliffs and ravines that create dramatic elevation changes and challenging golf. Notable features include the downhill 4th hole and the "quirky corner" holes of Nos. 6, 7 and 8. At the time of opening, Merion was the first club with two full eighteen hole courses.
Merion has hosted 19 USGA Championships, more than any other club, and is scheduled to host future championships including the 2026 U.S. Amateur, 2030 U.S. Open, 2034 U.S. Women's Open, 2040 U.S. Open, 2046 U.S. Women's Open, and 2050 U.S. Open.
