The Maples Course at Woodlake Country Club is an 18-hole championship course located in the Sandhills region near Pinehurst, North Carolina. Originally designed by Ellis Maples and Ed Seay in 1971, the course features lush Bermuda greens and fairways winding around a serene chain of lakes and wetlands. The layout spans multiple holes that play along and over these water features, with expanded fairways and challenging playing corridors.
The course underwent a comprehensive full restoration from 2021 to 2023 under restoration architect Kris Spence, a Donald Ross specialist. This renovation honored the original design while updating infrastructure for modern equipment and agronomical advances. A notable redesign includes an iconic 18th hole that runs in the opposite direction of the original. The restoration was recognized by GolfPass as among the "25 notable golf course renovations set to be unveiled in 2023."
Located just 20 minutes from the historic village of Pinehurst, the course presents a formidable challenge to scratch golfers while remaining accessible to players of all skill levels. The terrain features interesting elevation changes and mature vegetation characteristic of the Sandhills region, creating a challenging yet rewarding golfing experience.
