RedTail is a Roger Packard designed, 18-hole championship golf course with a par 72 layout of over 6,800 yards. The course is conveniently located in southeastern McHenry County in the Village of Lakewood, near Crystal Lake, Huntley, and Lake in the Hills. The Village bought this course in 1991, which originally opened to the public in 1992 as the Lakewood Golf Course, and was renamed RedTail Golf Club in 1997.

The course features bent grass tees, greens, and fairways, two island greens, strategic bunkering, many natural wetlands, and with four sets of tees, RedTail is challenging to players of all skill levels. Elevation changes and natural areas highlight this golf course that plays along scenic 240 acres, with wildlife, elevation, and its tricky layout providing an exceptionally challenging and scenic experience.

The course has been rated 4 stars by Golf Digest, 4 1/2 stars by Chicagoland Golf, and has been recognized as a top 10 municipal facility nationwide by the National Golf Foundation in overall customer satisfaction and loyalty.
