Located in Kameoka, Kyoto, Kansai Country Club is a 18-hole course set on the gentle slopes of Mount Kouou, known locally as "Toyono Fuji" for its distinctive shape. Designed by Ken Sato and opened in July 1977, the layout utilizes the natural undulations of the terrain to create a strategic challenge that blends seamlessly with the surrounding forest. The course is divided into an Out Course and an In Course, with yardages ranging from 2,817 yards for ladies to 3,345 yards from the back tees on the front nine alone. The signature hole is the 3rd, a 337-yard par 4 that serves as a demanding downhill tee shot. This hole is surrounded by seven bunkers, requiring precise approach shots to a green that features significant slope and multiple tiers. The course is characterized by its mix of downhill and uphill holes, with notable challenges including the 1st hole, a 498-yard par 5 that requires careful navigation away from the left-side woods, and the 16th, a 517-yard par 5 dogleg left protected by a water hazard on the left side of the green. Strategic play is essential throughout the round, with hazards such as out-of-bounds on the 8th and 9th holes, and a water hazard guarding the 15th green. The course features two-tiered greens on several holes, including the 9th and 18th, which test a player's chipping and putting accuracy. The natural setting, framed by dense trees and seasonal flora, provides a quiet environment where the terrain itself dictates the difficulty, rewarding players who can read the subtle contours and wind conditions.
