The course was designed by renowned golf course architect Porter Gibson. The design is sculpted from naturally-sloping topography, ensuring preservation of the natural terrain. With a slope rating of 130, Ivy Hill's ambitious layout is considered one of the toughest in the area, placing a premium on precision swings while using every club in your bag. The course features magnificent large greens that are among the best in Virginia and challenge the most discriminating golfer.

The layout includes five sets of tee boxes and dramatic elevation changes combined with scenic views, with preservation of the natural terrain being a high priority in course design. The course offers a chipping green with an adjacent practice bunker.
