Gosforth Golf Club, affectionately known as "The Bridlepath" due to the path dividing the course into two parts, is located in the leafy suburb of Gosforth, approximately 3 miles north of Newcastle city centre and 6 miles from Newcastle Airport. The course is situated in a secluded, scenic setting with stunning views from the clubhouse dining room.
The signature hole is the challenging 18th, a 434-yard par four ranked among the toughest finishing holes in the North East. This hole is flanked by a hedge on the left and the Ouseburn river at its widest point on the right, requiring a driver for golfers seeking to reach the green in regulation. The course features a mix of challenging long holes and interesting short holes, consistently maintained in excellent condition.
With over 113 years of history, Gosforth has produced notable players including English Amateur Champion Alan Thirlwell, seven-times Northumberland Champion Jimmy Hayes, and Jenny Lee Smith, winner of the first Women's British Open. The club welcomes members and visitors alike, offering various membership options and featuring enthusiastic Ladies, Men's, and Seniors sections.
