Garden City Country Club features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by renowned architect Walter J. Travis in 1916. The course plays to 6,540 yards from the back tees with a par of 70. Set on 120 acres in the Hempstead Plains of central Nassau County, New York, the layout is characterized by narrow fairways, small subtly undulating greens, and challenging rough that reflect a links-style design.

Travis's notable contributions to the course included adding approximately 50 bunkers and completely redesigning all 18 greens, emphasizing what he called "thinking golf" through strategic hazard placement. The course is recognized for its difficulty and requires thoughtful course management, with distinctive deep pot bunkers positioned throughout to challenge players both strategically and psychologically.

While the golf course itself has a rich history spanning over a century of play, the broader Garden City Country Club has hosted various competitive events and remains a private members' club. The course exemplifies golden age American golf architecture and is considered a masterpiece of course design from the early 20th century.
