Fox Chapel Golf Club was designed by Seth Raynor and opened in 1925, playing to 6,705 yards with a par of 70. Located 10 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh and across the Alleghany River from Oakmont Country Club, the course features classic Raynor template hole designs including Punchbowl, Eden, Cape, Redan, Alps, and Biarritz, with the front nine emphasizing template holes and the back nine showcasing designs unique to Fox Chapel. The course emphasizes good architecture and enjoyment over punishing difficulty, with routing designed as one of the easiest and most enjoyable courses to walk despite its rolling terrain.
The signature 17th hole is a Biarritz par 3 stretching 231 yards with a 3-4 foot swell through the middle of the green. Other notable holes include the Redan par 3 6th hole and the Lion's Mouth hole at nine. The course underwent restoration in the early 1990s by architect Brian Silva to reclaim original green dimensions and bunkers, with further refinement by Tom Marzolf of Tom Fazio Design completed in fall 2020.
Fox Chapel hosted the 2002 Curtis Cup and the 2012-2014 Senior Players Championships. The club also hosted the 1985 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
