Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande

Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande is considered one of Robert Trent Jones's masterpieces. Inaugurated in 1964, it was Jones's first course in Europe and exemplifies his design philosophy of creating courses perfectly integrated into their natural surroundings, challenging for elite players yet enjoyable for all skill levels.

Located just 150 meters from the Mediterranean Sea in southern Spain, the course features a par-72 layout spanning 6,492 meters. The design showcases wide fairways, elevated greens that are subtly molded and fast-playing, presenting the course's primary difficulty. With approximately 100 bunkers—69 strategically positioned around the greens—precision is essential when attacking the flags.

The course's signature characteristic is its remarkable variety, reflected not only in hole shapes and distances but also in vegetation. A diverse mix of cork oaks, pines, palms, and other species creates distinct personality and natural beauty throughout the layout.

The course has hosted numerous notable champions including Severiano Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Sergio García, Padraig Harrington, and Rory McIlroy, reflecting its championship caliber. In 1994, King Juan Carlos I granted the club its "Real" (Royal) designation.
