Founded in 1894, the Country Club of Asheville moved to its current site in 1928 when Donald Ross designed its 18-hole course, which was subsequently upgraded by Richard Mandell in 2016. The course measures 6,638 yards with a par 72 and slope rating of 120. The course is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and features notable views, with hole 16 being a distinctive 600-yard par five that is particularly prominent. The course offers a nice variety of hole designs with the primary defense coming from the green complexes, which feature slopes that can be severe on some holes.

The course underwent extensive restoration in 2016, including installation of new 007 Bentgrass on all 18 greens, restoration of a creek crossing on hole 10, creation of a new practice facility, and rerouting of cart paths. During the restoration, architect Richard Mandell focused on discovering and returning work Ross had created in 1928, incorporating knowledge of Ross's design while uncovering some original greens that had been buried. The full-service club offers amenities including tennis, fitness, dining, and aquatics facilities.
