Colonial Country Club is a private golf facility located in Fort Worth, Texas, situated at 3735 Country Club Circle. The course is a 18-hole championship layout that opened in 1936, designed through the collaborative efforts of architects John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell. Founder Marvin Leonard selected specific elements from both architects' independent designs to create a course featuring bentgrass greens, a first for the region at the time. The venue is currently undergoing a restoration led by architect Gil Hanse, which began in 2023 to restore the course's original architectural character. The course is distinguished by its extensive tournament history, having hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, the 1991 Women's U.S. Open, and the 1975 Tournament Players Championship. It is the site of the longest-running tournament on the PGA Tour at a single location, currently known as the Charles Schwab Challenge. The event has been held annually since 1946, with the exception of 1949 due to flooding. The club features a "Wall of Champions" on the first tee, which lists the winners of the tournament, and the tradition of awarding a Scottish tartan jacket to the champion began in 1952. Notable victories at the course include five wins by Ben Hogan and six by Arnold Palmer. The facility also hosted Annika Sorenstam in 2003, when she became the first woman to play in a PGA Tour event since 1945. The clubhouse, constructed with red brick and Colonial Columns, was rebuilt after fires in 1943 and 1953, with the current structure opening in 1955. The course is recognized for its challenging nature, designed to test players of all levels while maintaining the aesthetic and strategic intent of its original 1941 design.
