Castle Rock Golf and Recreation is located in Pembroke, Virginia overlooking the New River and its namesake "Castle Rock" in Giles County, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. The 18-hole course features 5,668 yards from the longest tees for a par of 71, with a course rating of 68.5 and slope rating of 117. The course was designed by Ferdinand Garbin, and has been in operation since the mid 1960s. The course features bent grass greens.
The course features undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and fast greens with a mix of open fairways and tree-lined holes. The signature par-3 8th hole, known as "The Castle," requires a precise shot over a scenic water feature to a well-guarded green. The course has many elevation changes with scenic mountain views, providing fair lies on fairways and excellent green conditions. The course is open to the public.
In 2017, Castle Rock Golf course was recognized as the 2nd Best Golf Course in Southwest Virginia by Virginia Living Magazine. In addition to the golf course, the facility includes a Junior Olympic size swimming pool, clubhouse, lighted tennis courts, picnic shelter with 15 tables and two charcoal grills.
