Abiko Golf Club is a private 18-hole course located in Abiko, Chiba, Japan, situated approximately a 40-minute train ride from central Tokyo. The course was originally designed by Rokuro Akahoshi and opened in 1930, establishing a long history within the region. Its layout is characterized by the utilization of the natural terrain, creating a course that reflects a liberal and democratic spirit. In 2012, the course underwent a significant renovation led by designers Brian Silva and Kai Gollbee to prepare for its centennial. This project was recognized by Golf Magazine Japan, which awarded the renovation the Best International Renovation title in 2013. The design work by Silva and Gollbee aimed to preserve the course's character while modernizing its playability for golfers of all ages and skill levels. The setting is defined by its proximity to nature, with the club offering views of the surrounding landscape from various points, including the dining area which overlooks the course. The terrain features rolling hills and natural vegetation, contributing to the distinct character of the holes. The course is accessible via a short bus ride from Tenno-dai Station on the JR Joban Line. The design emphasizes a free and open style of play, consistent with the club's founding motto. The renovation has maintained the course's reputation as a place where golfers can enjoy the game in a comfortable and respectful environment.
