Golf Course

Karnataka

Located in Bangalore at an altitude of 915 meters, the Karnataka Golf Association course is a 72-par, 18-hole layout designed by Peter Thompson of Thomson Wolveridge & Associates. The 125-acre property was developed from the former Challaghatta swamp, with the land officially handed over to the association in 1980. The course opened fully in May 1989, following the initial inauguration of a nine-hole section in late 1986 ahead of the SAARC Summit. The championship tees stretch to 7,219 yards, carrying a slope rating of 137. The fairways are planted with Hybrid Bermuda, leading to true-running greens of Tiff Dwarf. The greens are typically played at a fast pace, with stimp meter readings often exceeding ten during tournaments. The general grain on the putting surfaces runs westerly, except in areas where ponds are situated near the greens. Weather conditions significantly influence play, with prevailing winds blowing from the south-west between June and August, and shifting to the north-east for the remainder of the year. Out-of-bounds areas are clearly marked with white stakes and are fenced. The course features on-course huts equipped with first-aid kits, intercoms to the clubhouse, and Wi-Fi facilities, while refreshments and restrooms are available at the fourth, sixth, and fifteenth tees. The association has hosted numerous tournaments over its history, utilizing the course as a premier destination for golf in South India. The facility includes a driving range, a pro shop, and a Callaway Performance Centre, with membership and guest fees structured to accommodate both local and visiting players. The course remains a central hub for competitive golf in the region, supported by a full-service clubhouse and extensive tournament calendar.
