Dunluce Links

County Antrim

The Dunluce Links at Royal Portrush is one of the world's most challenging links courses, named after the dramatic ruins of Dunluce Castle perched on a basalt cliff. Originally designed by legendary architect Harry Colt, the 18-hole course offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and dramatic coastal terrain shaped by shifting sands and dunes. The course underwent significant redesign between 2015 and 2017 in preparation for The Open Championship in 2019, led by architect Martin Ebert. The renovation included construction of five new greens, eight new tee boxes, ten new bunkers, and two entirely new holes (the 7th and 8th), created on land formerly part of Valley Links. Dunluce presents a fair yet scenically stunning challenge characterized by strategic shot-making, narrow green entrances, and demanding bunkering. Notable holes include the 5th (White Rocks), a dramatic dogleg playing downhill to a green perched on the Atlantic's edge, and the iconic 16th (Calamity Corner), a par-3 where the green drops away to a yawning chasm, requiring precision placement rather than distance. Throughout the course, accuracy and strategy prove more valuable than length, with coastal views and natural hazards providing both challenge and beauty.

Dunston Hall Golf Course

Norfolk 1 upcoming event

Dunston Hall Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 71 parkland layout measuring around 6,179 to 6,275 yards, situated on the grounds of the Dunston Hall Hotel near Norwich, Norfolk. The course was designed by J. Glasgow, with Peter Alliss also credited in some sources, and opened in 1994. It was built to USGA specification and contours around the 150-acre wooded Dunston Hall estate, which is centred on an Elizabethan-style red brick country house. The layout weaves through mature trees and undulating terrain typical of the Norfolk countryside, with the course routed to make the most of the estate's natural features. Water is the defining characteristic of the course, with eleven of the eighteen holes featuring water hazards in some form. This places a strong premium on accuracy over distance, as errant shots are regularly punished by ponds and streams positioned to catch both tee shots and approaches. The fairways are tree-lined throughout, and strategically placed bunkers add further demands on shot-making. The course is generally considered a fair test for golfers of all abilities rather than a severe championship examination, with a mix of doglegs, short and long holes providing variety across the round. The standout hole is the 16th, which sits at the highest point of the course and offers panoramic views across the Norfolk countryside, with an island green requiring a precise tee shot.
