The championship course features four sets of tees, thirteen bridges spanning the Wissahickon Creek, lakes, ponds, two large practice areas, expansive greens and bunkers, and abundant wildlife. The club has a rich history dating back to the late 1890s and originally opened with its namesake in 1921. Its original course was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and hosted high-profile tournaments and exhibitions, including Bobby Locke edging Ben Hogan in the 1947 Philadelphia Inquirer Invitational. After the City of Philadelphia declared eminent domain over a portion of property during construction of Route 309 Expressway in 1958, the club relocated to its current location in 1962 where William Mitchell designed the new course in consultation with William Gordon. The Wissahickon Creek has been in play for every hole on the back nine. The course features challenging water hazards and elevation changes throughout, with signature holes including multiple par-5s and par-3s that require navigation over the creek. Course conditions are noted as excellent by golfers.
