The Wisley

Surrey

The Wisley is a member-owned golf club opened in 1991, located in Surrey countryside near London. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course features three nine-hole loops—The Church (3,356 yards, par 36), The Garden (3,385 yards, par 36), and The Mill (3,473 yards, par 36)—allowing flexible playing combinations across the 224-acre property. The course is characterized by its scenic Surrey setting with natural water features, including the River Wey that defines several holes. Notable holes include Garden 5, a par-5 requiring a bold tee shot over the river to reach in two, and Mill 5, a short par-3 at 146 yards surrounded by seven bunkers that reward accuracy over distance. The Church's 9th hole is noted for its Augusta-like qualities, featuring tree-lined aesthetics with rhododendrons. The layout balances accessibility with strategic challenge, emphasizing shot-making precision and course management. The Wizard / Man O' War Golf Course

SC

The Wizard is a Par 71 course designed by architect Dan Maples that opened in 1996 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, the course combines traditional Scottish style with American flair. The course measures 6,721 yards, and is built around several man-made lakes that serve as obstacles adding complexity to the game. The course features slick bent grass greens—a rarity in the South—plus stone bridges and a clubhouse built to resemble a medieval castle's ruins. Maples used dirt excavated from Man O'War to create mounds, sod-faced bunkers, and elevation changes that give The Wizard an Old World character. The Wizard is a course that favors precision and patience, with numerous holes where water or bunkers are not visible from the tee. The course earned a four-star rating from Golf Digest. The finishing Par 4 18th hole is surrounded by water, playing from an island tee box to an island fairway to a peninsula green, with Par constituting an outstanding score. The Wizard hosts events including the Capt. Daves Match Play Championship and World Amateur.
