Originally built in 1934 as the Purdue South Course by Indiana Golf Hall of Famer Bill Diddle, the course underwent significant renovation under Dye's creative direction to create a modern championship venue while preserving its parkland-style character. The course features large bent-grass greens, fairways, and tees with rolling hills, tree-lined fairways, and white sand bunkers. Water hazards are minimal. Five tee options accommodate all skill levels, ranging from 5,255 yards (forward tees) to 7,546 yards (championship tees). The layout presents moderate to challenging conditions for golfers of varying abilities. Ackerman-Allen has substantial tournament history, having hosted the 1961 NCAA Men's Championships where Purdue won the team title and Jack Nicklaus earned medalist honors.
