Early erosion along the river necessitated the relocation of nine holes southward in the years following completion. In the early 1960s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed stone-filled pile dikes along the shoreline for bank stabilization and flood control, which have protected the course from flooding while allowing silt accumulation for future recreational use.
