Patty Jewett Golf Course, built in 1898, is one of the oldest continuously operating public golf courses west of the Mississippi River and has been city-owned since 1919. Located in Colorado Springs, the course features a 27-hole regulation layout with an 18-hole course rated par 72 and a separate 9-hole course. The 18th hole is particularly notable, regarded by some as the toughest finishing hole in the area, with a large tree, a creek, and a challenging uphill dogleg left to the green. The course has been the site of many professional and amateur tournaments and has hosted such great players as Walter Hagen, Art Wall, and Ed Dudley. During private ownership by White Manor the back nine holes were changed considerably, with only the 11th, 12th, 14th, and 15th holes remaining unchanged from the original design. The facility includes a classically designed 18-hole golf course, practice range, restaurant, and banquet facility. Paxon Hollow was formed as a private club over 90 years ago and has now become one of the most popular public golf courses in the Philadelphia area.
