Paris Mountain Country Club

SC

Paris Mountain Country Club is a historic mountain course in Greenville, SC, established in 1938. The course was founded by J.P. Traynham, who initially built a 9-hole layout while employed as greens superintendent at Greenville Country Club. In 1948, Traynham left to focus on Paris Mountain and built the second nine holes, which opened for play in 1950. The 18-hole course features 6,025 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by Tom Jackson, the course opened in 1980. The course rating is 68.3 with a slope rating of 114. The seventeenth hole is noted as one of the course's most beautifully scenic holes, overlooking the golf course with Paris Mountain as its backdrop, and is a downhill par 4 with water in front and right of the green. The opening hole starts with a scenic and challenging design featuring a signature island green. The thirteenth hole is the course's number one handicap—a long downhill par 4 with a very narrow fairway that starts a difficult three-hole stretch. The course has a long history of producing talented golfers, including J.P.'s son Dillard Traynham, who won multiple South Carolina and Carolinas amateur championships and is a member of the Greenville County Golf Hall of Fame. Dillard Pruitt, J.P.'s grandson, had an All-American career at Clemson and was a member of the PGA Tour from 1988 to 1996.
