The course's natural slope and tree-lined meadows make for a challenging experience. Slope ratings vary by tee selection, with ratings ranging from 128 to 132. Players should anticipate their ball to fly longer than normal due to the altitude. The elevated first tee is a notable feature of the course layout. Designer John Bland went on to later design Belle Fourche, Custer, and Spearfish courses, among others in the region.
