Baltray Golf Club

County Louth

County Louth Golf Club is a links golf course located in the village of Baltray, County Louth, approximately 4 miles from Drogheda. The club was established in 1892, with the present course designed by Tom Simpson and Molly Gourlay in 1938. The championship course is a par 72 measuring 7,031 yards from the back tees and is currently ranked #8 by Golf Digest. The course is laid out in two loops with most holes running in different directions, and the greens are County Louth's hallmark—they are among the very best in Ireland. Baltray has no weak holes, and if you can avoid three putting for 18 holes, you have the right to claim you're a great putter. The back nine is especially entertaining with a number of holes running close to the shore with distant views towards the Mountains of Mourne. The course features natural unspoilt links with towering sandhills, testing rough and a variety of great holes that demand accurate hitting and strategic thinking. The East of Ireland Championship has been held at County Louth since 1941, with Darren Clarke winning in 1989. The Irish Open professional golf tournament, part of the PGA European Tour, has been held at County Louth on two occasions, in 2004 and 2009. In 2009, the club became the venue where 2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry won the Irish Open as an amateur. The course regularly ranks in the top 10 links courses in Ireland.

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

OR 2 upcoming events

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort comprises seven distinct links courses set along Oregon's rugged coastline. The original Bandon Dunes course, designed by David McLay Kidd and opened in 1999, ranks No. 7 among public courses. Pacific Dunes, designed by Tom Doak (2001), ranks No. 2. Additional courses include Bandon Trails (2005, Coore & Crenshaw, No. 13), Old Macdonald (2010, Doak & Urbina, No. 12), Sheep Ranch (2020, Coore & Crenshaw, No. 15), Bandon Preserve (2012, Coore & Crenshaw, par-3 with 13 holes), and Shorty's (2024, Whitman, Axland & Cutten, par-3 with 19 holes). The resort embraces Scottish links traditions with walking-only play. The setting features sweeping untamed shores, primeval grassy dunes rolling toward the sea, and dramatic coastal views. Designed to harmonize with the natural environment, the courses reveal varying difficulty and characteristics. The resort was envisioned by founder Mike Keiser, who sought to recreate the heritage and traditions of Scotland's ancient golf links. Beyond golf, Bandon Dunes offers comprehensive resort amenities including lodging, dining, a practice center, caddie services, and championship tournaments.

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort - Old Macdonald Golf Course

OR 3 upcoming events

Old Macdonald is the fourth course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, designed by Tom Doak and Jim Urbina as a tribute to Charles Blair Macdonald. The course asks what Macdonald would have created with the Oregon Coast as his canvas. It features 18 holes with classic design principles including vast greens, multiple angles of play, and strategic bunkers. The layout spans diverse terrain across the coastal landscape, with signature holes including Eden (par 3 into prevailing winds), Sahara (blind tee shot over sand dunes), Hog's Back (long par 4 requiring precision), and Punchbowl (strong finishing par 4 playing downwind in summer). Notable features include the Biarritz hole with its distinctive swale and elevated tees offering remarkable views of the surrounding coastline. The course presents considerable challenge through wind exposure, elevated greens, and strategic bunkering inspired by classic Scottish links design. Hole-by-hole, players encounter varying difficulty and shot-making demands. Golf Digest praised it as "the hottest course in America right now," noting its resemblance to West of Scotland links golf. The course emphasizes positional play and course management as key to scoring well.

Bandon Golf Club

County Cork

Bandon Golf Club is a championship course established in 1909, located in County Cork, Ireland. Set over 130 acres in the Bandon River valley, the course is nestled within the grounds of the historic Castlebernard Estate, bordered by original estate walls dating to the 1700s. The 18-hole course features a traditional layout with strategic design elements. Notable characteristics include several challenging driving holes, with out-of-bounds hazards on multiple holes creating difficulty. The course includes multiple par 3s and par 5s interspersed throughout, with holes 5, 6, and 7 designated as the "Castle holes" by members. Hole 7, a par 3, offers spectacular views of Castle Bernard. The course presents moderate to challenging difficulty, with hole 14 identified as the most difficult on the layout due to out-of-bounds running the full length on the left side. Hole 11, a 115-yard downhill par 3, is notably deceptive despite its short length. Other signature holes include hole 18, which has historically affected competition scores significantly. The course accommodates both full 18-hole play and 9-hole rounds, welcoming both members and visitors throughout the year.

Bandon Sheep Ranch

OR

The par-71 course plays 6,785 yards with nine greens perched high above on beachfront cliffs and all 18 holes positioned for awe-inspiring ocean views. Renovated by the world-class design team of Coore & Crenshaw and co-founded by Phil Friedmann and Mike Keiser, the Sheep Ranch was for many years a mysterious golf landscape just north of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The sixth course, Sheep Ranch, opened on June 1, 2020. Located to the north of Old Macdonald, it has a mile of ocean frontage over a series of promontories, with several holes featuring shots over water and cliffs. Of all the Bandon courses, Sheep Ranch is the most exposed to the wind, the most open, and fully embraces the ocean, with views of the ocean from every hole. It is also the only course without any sand bunkers or sand-based waste areas. To avoid placing the greens strictly parallel to the ocean because of the extreme wind conditions, Coore and Crenshaw grouped up to three tees in small clusters; the holes then radiated out at different angles. Golf Digest selected Sheep Ranch as the best new course of 2020. In 2021 Golf Digest ranked the course 16th in its list of America's Greatest Public Courses. In 2024, Golf Digest named two holes at Sheep Ranch (the 6th and 11th) to America's 100 Greatest Holes.

Bandon Trails

OR

Bandon Trails was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and opened on June 1, 2005. The course features 18 holes with a par of 73 and plays to 6,765 yards. Bandon Trails differs from its siblings in that no holes are routed along the Pacific Ocean; the course meanders through dunes, meadows, and forest land. There are three links-like holes, eight "meadow" holes, and seven weaving through the trees. The course starts in serious sand dunes, then turns inward toward meadows and dense Oregon rainforest, climbing toward an upper section at holes nine through 13. The 14th hole is a love-it-or-hate-it par 4 to a thumb of a green personally fashioned by Crenshaw that can be driven with an unerring tee shot off a high bluff. The course is widely considered the best "shot makers" course at the resort. In 2009, Golf Magazine ranked Bandon Trails thirty-third in its list of the 50 best courses built in the last 50 years. Bandon Trails was used as the second course for the stroke-play portion of a major amateur championship event. The course hosts tournaments and events including the annual Bandon Dunes Championship for collegiate golf teams.
