The par-71 course plays 6,785 yards with nine greens perched high above on beachfront cliffs and all 18 holes positioned for awe-inspiring ocean views. Renovated by the world-class design team of Coore & Crenshaw and co-founded by Phil Friedmann and Mike Keiser, the Sheep Ranch was for many years a mysterious golf landscape just north of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The sixth course, Sheep Ranch, opened on June 1, 2020. Located to the north of Old Macdonald, it has a mile of ocean frontage over a series of promontories, with several holes featuring shots over water and cliffs.

Of all the Bandon courses, Sheep Ranch is the most exposed to the wind, the most open, and fully embraces the ocean, with views of the ocean from every hole. It is also the only course without any sand bunkers or sand-based waste areas. To avoid placing the greens strictly parallel to the ocean because of the extreme wind conditions, Coore and Crenshaw grouped up to three tees in small clusters; the holes then radiated out at different angles.

Golf Digest selected Sheep Ranch as the best new course of 2020. In 2021 Golf Digest ranked the course 16th in its list of America's Greatest Public Courses. In 2024, Golf Digest named two holes at Sheep Ranch (the 6th and 11th) to America's 100 Greatest Holes.
