Iejima Country Club

国頭郡

Iejima Country Club is a golf facility located in Okinawa, Japan, distinguished by its dual-course configuration that offers players a choice between a standard short course and a full-length round. The property is centered around an 18-hole short course that serves as the primary layout, featuring a par of 58. This main course is noted for its length, standing as one of the longest short courses in Okinawa with a total yardage of 3,038 yards. For those seeking a complete 18-hole experience, the club operates a full-length course on specific days, typically the first and third Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The design allows the yardage of the full round to match that of a standard regular course tee box, providing a substantial challenge for golfers. The course is set against a backdrop of open skies and the marine blue sea, offering panoramic views that define the playing experience. The terrain and layout are designed to allow players to feel the natural environment while navigating the fairways. The facility caters to both casual play on the short course and more serious rounds on the long course, depending on the day of the week.

A mature parkland golf course founded in 1927, Ifield Golf Club lies on the west side of Crawley, Sussex. Designed by the same architects responsible for the redesign of Royal Birkdale that same year, the course measures 6,319 yards and plays to a par 70. The layout consists of two loops of nine holes and has remained largely unaltered over its nearly century-long history, preserving its original character and challenge. The course was originally described as "as close to the ideal of inland golf as a parkland course could possibly be," offering a complete test of modern golf architecture. Set within a mature parkland setting, Ifield provides much the same examination of golf as it did when established, with the course retaining its established design principles and strategic demands. The relatively modest yardage and par rating belie the comprehensive challenge presented across the routing, making it one of the most respected and established parkland courses in Sussex.

Ikaho Country Club

群馬県

Ikaho Country Club is a 7,077-yard, par-72 course located in Ikaho, Gunma Prefecture, designed by renowned architect and agricultural scientist Tadashige Shimoyama. Opened in August 1959 as Gunma’s first full-fledged members-only club, the course is set on the slopes of Mount Mizusan and Mount Hina, where the fairways are framed by mature cedar and cypress trees that were once part of the Imperial Forest. The layout offers views of Mount Akagi and the Mount Tanigawa range, with a course rating of 73.4 and a slope rating of 135. The course is distinguished by its use of two types of fifth-generation Bentgrass greens, a feature that is rare in Japan. The "Tsutsuji" greens, installed in 2018, utilize the Pure Distinction variety, known for its high density and smooth roll, while the "Sakura" greens, added in 2019, use the Triple Seven variety for a faster, more aggressive surface. In 2020, the third hole became the only hole on the course with two greens, allowing for strategic play on both surfaces. All rounds are played with caddies, and the course features multiple tee boxes including Blue, White, Sky Blue, and Red, offering yardages ranging from 3,963 yards to 7,077 yards. The front nine presents a mix of long par fives and technical par fours. The first hole is a 549-yard par 5 with a view of Mount Akagi, while the eighth hole is a 545-yard par 5 over a valley that is recommended for long hitters. The sixth hole is a 207-yard par 3 over a ravine, and the ninth hole is a 414-yard par 4 that requires a precise drive to avoid the left rough. The back nine begins with the 402-yard tenth hole and features the 513-yard fifteenth par 5, which plays to the right and offers a birdie opportunity for powerful players. The most challenging holes are often found on the back nine. The seventeenth hole is a 173-yard par 3 that plays over a pond from an elevated tee, with a significant drop-off that makes recovery difficult if the ball misses the green. The eighteenth hole is a 610-yard par 5 that finishes with a dogleg left, featuring two fairway bunkers and a water hazard on the left side. The course also includes a 10-strike driving range, two practice greens, and a restaurant that offers healthy, low-carbohydrate menu options.

The Aduma and Otowa combination is often cited as the most challenging and popular routing, featuring a total distance of 7,191 yards from the back tees with a course rating of 72.7. This pairing includes several long par-4s and par-5s that demand distance, such as the 566-yard 1st hole on the Aduma course and the 558-yard 8th on Otowa. The Aduma course itself is noted for its mid-holes, all of which exceed 400 yards from the back markers, requiring precise distance control. The Eboshi course offers a shorter, more strategic test with a total distance of 7,048 yards, where accuracy is prioritized over raw power. Each of the three courses features dual greens, designated as Akane (茜) and Ai (藍), which provide different playing conditions and affect the course rating. The Akane greens generally result in higher ratings, with the Aduma and Otowa combination reaching 73.4, while the Ai greens lower the rating to 70.2 for the same routing. The Otowa course is described as a full-fledged championship layout, while the Eboshi course is designed to test directionality with its separate, shorter holes. The facility operates as a self-play course with electric carts, though caddies are available upon request. The course is accessible via the Kan-Etsu Expressway at the Shibukawa-Ikaho Interchange, located just 11 kilometers away. It serves as a base for golfers seeking a summer retreat, with cool winds from the Jomo mountains providing relief during morning and evening rounds. The club maintains a schedule that accommodates seasonal changes, including winter closures due to snow, ensuring the fairways remain in optimal condition for play throughout the open season.

Ikuno Kogen Country Club

兵庫県

Situated at an elevation of 600 meters, Ikuno Kogen Country Club is a highland course designed by Yoshio Machida and opened in September 1964. The 18-hole layout, played to a par 72, is characterized by a distinct split in terrain and atmosphere. The front nine traverses undulating hills, presenting a true丘陵 (hilly) course experience where control and precision are paramount. In contrast, the back nine transitions into a more open, forested environment with flatter ground, though it still demands accuracy off the tee. The course features a single Bentgrass green, which plays firm and fast, particularly in the cool mountain air. The opening hole sets the tone for the front nine with a demanding 420-yard par 4 from the back tees. This downhill middle hole requires a cautious drive to avoid a lateral water hazard on the left, while the approach shot must navigate around guards near the green. The difficulty ramps up significantly at the ninth hole, a 413-yard par 4 that features a severe 17-yard uphill approach to a challenging three-tiered green. Misreading the slopes here can lead to difficult putts, making it a critical juncture in the front nine. The back nine offers a different test, highlighted by two long par 4s that serve as the course's signature finishing holes. The 15th is a 409-yard uphill middle hole with a narrow green, requiring a careful approach to avoid the steep drop-offs. The 18th hole, measuring 428 yards from the back tees, is a stern test of nerve. With out-of-bounds lining the right side and a narrow green on the left, it is described as a hole that allows no margin for error, demanding a centered drive and a precise second shot to close out the round. The course is known for its wide fairways, which offer generous landing areas, but the undulating greens and strategic hazards keep scores in check. The setting provides a cool retreat during the summer months, with the surrounding natural springs providing the club with ultra-soft water. While the course does not host major professional tournaments, it regularly hosts local competitions, including the "Captain Cup" and various monthly monthly prize events, maintaining a strong community presence in the Hyogo region.
