The club relocated to its current site in 1973, where William Byrd designed the course layout that has earned recognition for its beauty and playability. In 2005, renowned architect John Lafoy undertook a comprehensive renovation to modernize the course and enhance the putting surfaces, establishing it as one of North Carolina's finest golf courses.

The course has hosted significant tournaments including eight Carolinas Golf Association majors, such as the 2010 NC Men's Amateur and 2009 NCWGA Ladies' State Amateur, along with US Open qualifiers and Web.Com Tour qualifiers. The club also conducts annual Two Ball and Pro-Am Invitational tournaments.
