Westport Golf Club at the Kawatiri Links is situated at Carter's Beach, approximately 3 kilometres from Westport township. This links-style course features challenging conditions with sand bunkers and rough terrain characteristic of coastal golf.

The course is notable for its demanding layout, particularly the infamous 2nd hole—a short par described by some as "the shortest par 5 in the country." From an elevated tee toward the sea, this severely sloping green guarded by bunkers demands precise shot placement to avoid scoring difficulties. The 1st hole also presents early challenges, requiring shaped tee shots to navigate large trees.

Westport offers numerous driving holes with ample fairway width, though wayward shots encounter varying degrees of rough. Trees strategically placed throughout can significantly impact play. As a beachside course, it remains susceptible to wind, with holes oriented both with and against prevailing winds, plus cross-course holes that present additional difficulty.

The course has earned recognition for maintaining "the best greens on The Coast," featuring contoured surfaces that provide genuine interest. Green fees are $40 per round, with club and cart hire available. The course welcomes visitors to participate in regular club days held Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday mornings, plus ladies' play on Sunday.
