Waveland Golf Course Top 100 Review

Established in 1901, Waveland Golf Course is the oldest municipal golf course west of the Mississippi River. This 18-hole course was designed by Warren Dickson and officially dedicated in 1901 after the land was deeded to the Des Moines Park Department in 1894. Located in Des Moines, Iowa, the course features a classic layout set among rolling wooded hillsides with dramatic terrain and significant slopes that challenge golfers of all skill levels. The challenging design has proven enduring, maintaining its original character over more than 122 years of operation. Waveland's historic clubhouse, featuring a stone fireplace, vaulted ceilings, and rustic wood accents, serves as a gathering place for the golf community. The course hosts various tournaments and special events, and offers comprehensive youth development programs in partnership with Jester Park, including PGA Junior League, clinics, camps, and in-house league practice.
