Waikanae Golf Club is located just a few hundred metres from the Kapiti Coastline in the Wellington region and is acknowledged as one of the area's more reputable courses. The layout features a distinctive blend of authentic dune lands, native wetlands, and meandering creeks that create a unique natural landscape and set it apart from other courses in the region.

The course's clever routing through this varied terrain provides golfing challenges suited to players of all abilities. Course architect Phil Tataurangi's master plan emphasizes ecological restoration, including native species plantings and careful waterway stewardship.

Waikanae has hosted several significant national events, including New Zealand Open qualifying rounds, the National Women's Stroke Play, the National Women's Under 19 Championships, and the Wellington Stroke Play. The men's course record stands at 63 (eight under par), set by Fraser Wilkin in 2013, while the women's record is 68, achieved by Caroline Bon in 2008 during the New Zealand Women's Strokeplay Championship.
