Te Marua Golf Club is an 18-hole course built on gently undulating terrain adjacent to the Hutt River in Upper Hutt, New Zealand. Designed in the mid-1960s by British architect Commander John Harris, the course was created to work with the natural landscape, featuring native bird habitat and minimal artificial modifications beyond a few bunkers.
The Hutt River presents a natural hazard on the first hole and runs adjacent to eight holes, with many errant shots finding their way toward Wellington Harbour. The elevation changes throughout the course provide additional challenge despite the moderate difficulty level. The course makes strategic use of natural hazards rather than relying on artificial obstacles, demonstrating the durability of Harris's original design philosophy.
Notable named holes include Waterloo, Ambush, Grandstand, and Riverside among the 18. The course record stands at 63, set by Anthony Ilton-Maher on 28 December 2023 during the 45th Masters tournament. Te Marua hosts regular competitions and an annual Masters event, establishing itself as a significant venue in the local golfing community.
