It is built on hilly ground with the front nine holes being at the highest point of the course offering some spectacular sea views. Villamartin is situated on the southernmost tip of the Costa Blanca and boasts one of the healthiest climates in Europe.

Villamartin has a par of 72 with 4 par fives all over 500 yards long and 4 par three's, the seventeenth being the most spectacular. Hole 17 is the Par 3 signature hole with a demanding 200m carry off the back tee onto an extremely undulating green. It's known for its strategic layout, with doglegs, well-placed bunkers, and undulating greens that reward accuracy over distance. The course features mature Mediterranean pine vegetation and natural valleys that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

Villamartin gained international recognition after hosting the 1994 Mediterranean Open, where José María Olazábal lifted the trophy. Villamartín golf course hosted a qualifying of the European circuit in 1997. Severiano Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Ian Woosnan and many other international figures have played golf here.
