Village Green Golf Course in Mundelein, Illinois, was opened in 1962 and designed by Ray Didier, the former superintendent of Tam O'Shanter during its tournament-hosting heyday. The course features 18 holes, plays to par 70, and stretches 6,235 yards with a course rating of 69.2 and slope rating of 115. The course includes water hazards from two ponds affecting up to five holes in a straightforward parkland-style design. Most holes run parallel to each other, with homes bordering the southern edge. Ray Didier's design focused on challenging playability, and for many years Village Green was a staple of the central Lake County golf scene. Ownership changed hands when the Mundelein School District bought the land in 2004 for $8.4 million for possible school expansion, but the anticipated enrollment boom never happened, making it quite possibly the only course in the country owned by a high school.
