Victoria Golf Club, founded in 1893, is the oldest 18-hole golf course in Canada in its original location and the second oldest in North America. The course originally began with 14 holes and expanded to 18 in 1895. The current layout was finalized in the mid-1920s following a 1923 decision to discontinue tee shots across the increasingly busy Beach Drive.
Located in Victoria, British Columbia, the course is situated on traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. The club's stately clubhouse, completed in 1928, is a registered Canadian Historic Place and has undergone several expansions and renovations, including a significant update in 1993.
The course has maintained its design and character through over 130 years of operation, becoming a significant part of Canadian golf history. Victoria Golf Club is notable not only for its longevity but also for its role as a gathering place for golf, companionship, and community across generations of players.
